A Message From Susan

4th March 2013
A Message From Susan
Hello,
Well I’ve had a busy week on my first movie set in the Cotswolds and I have to say I’m having the time of my life. Who’d have thought I’d be in a movie? The Christmas Candle is a period film and I am really enjoying dressing up in the Victorian outfits, I rather like having a bustle!
It’s been a real experience and I’m working with wonderful actors and actresses who are pros and I’m learning so much from them as this is all so new to me. The crew are wonderful and incredibly patient with me the novice! Filming is long but an incredibly interesting process and I can say I have been bitten by the acting bug.
There was speculation that I was making a cameo appearance but I have a proper character in the film and acting is a really great experience.
For me a hardy Scot, the cold country weather is practically balmy but even I have had days where I have feet warmers in my boots, a hot water bottle under my costume, long johns and tights in a bid to keep warm. Luckily we’ve been blessed with sun and blue sky which has helped.
I have my own winnebago with my name on the door! I feel like a proper professional actor, let me tell you. The wardrobe has various outfits for my character and I have a very necessary kettle for my cups of tea between scenes. I’m also performing a song for the movie with my on screen husband. He’s been helping me learn the ropes with acting and I’ve been helping him with the singing! It’s a good screen marriage.
On Friday we had the day off so I came down to London to visit the record label and discuss album five. Sorry folks, you’re going to have to keep guessing a wee bit longer. Surprise is good!
Then with an afternoon free I went to Harrods to have a little look around, buy some perfume and a few Easter gifts for family. It’s a wonderful experience browsing round the food halls and so vast that in the couple of hours we were there we didn’t even get off of the ground floor.
After a lovely dinner with my manager and his wife, we then drove back to the Cotswolds ready for filming over the weekend, buoyant and happy from a wonderful day off that was positive and exciting for the future of my singing career.
This will be my last full week on set and although I’m looking forward to returning home I will most definitely miss the wonderful team on The Christmas Candle. It’s been great being a part of the tight knit community, with many a giggle and story shared.
I would definitely like to continue with an acting career alongside my singing career so fingers crossed this debut goes well and who knows maybe Hollywood will come chapping on my door.

Susan Boyle’s journey from ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ to ‘The Christmas Candle’

Written on:March 1, 2013

Susan Boyle acting debut
Susan Boyle dreams come true as her acting career takes off
Susan Boyle, the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ find, is all set to make her acting debut in holiday period film ‘The Christmas Candle’. The 51-year-old will join Samantha Barks, Hans Matheson and Lesley Manville in the production, which has just begun shooting this week in the UK. Apart from starring in the period drama, Susan Boyle will even get to sing for the production. Susan Boyle’s claim to fame is the superhit ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ album which went on to become part of ‘Les Miserables’ film.
‘The Christmas Candle’ stars ‘Les Misérables’ actress Samantha Barks and ‘Dr Who’s’, Sylvester McCoy, the shooting of which began earlier this week. Revealing her excitement for having bagged the part, Susan Boyle, said, “Everyone on set is a delight to work with and it’s a fantastic experience to be part of the team. I’m really enjoying getting dressed in the period costumes and stepping back in time and although it’s very cold filming on location – I’m wearing long johns under my bustle.”
Susan Boyle’s first attempt to gain fame began with her participation in Britain’s Got Talent in 2009. Her initial appearance on the talent show fired public imagination when her modest stage introduction and thick speaking accent left audience, viewers and judges alike unprepared for the power and expression of her mezzo-soprano voice. Before she had finished the song’s opening phrase, she received a standing ovation from the enthralled audience. Susan Boyle became an overnight sensation with her videos from the show, various interviews and her 1999 rendition of ‘Cry Me a River’, all having been watched over 100 million times.
The Scottish singer’s debut album ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ in 2009 instantly became the UK’s best-selling debut album of all time, beating the previous record held by ‘Spirit’ by Leona Lewis. ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ is ranked fourth in its first week sales according to the Official Chart Company in the UK.

Susan Boyle: From ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ to feature films

Susan BoyleWhile we may still be waiting for the first “America’s Got Talent” start to sell millions of albums around the world (even if Terry Fator has a good gig set up in Las Vegas), the success story of Susan Boyle of the British version of the show still continues. Even with the recent Tom Hooper film in mind, “I Dreamed a Dream” has become equally synonymous with her as with “Les Miserables,” and she has sold more than ten million albums worldwide.
So now that she has conquered music (and she has done so without even winning her season of the talent competition), what is next for her? Apparently, it is appearing in feature films. The singer has been tapped to play a currently-unknown role in “The Christmas Candle,” a project that is set during the 1890s and revolves around many popular holiday themes as love, spirit, and giving. Samantha Barks of “Les Miserables” is ironically also on the project, as is “Game of Thrones” actor James Cosmo.
In a statement, here is what Boyle (who will continue to make music despite this foray into scripted fare) had to say about getting this opportunity after making some stage appearances in a musical based off of her life:
“Everyone on set is a delight to work with, and it’s a fantastic experience to be part of the team … I’m really enjoying getting dressed in the period costumes and stepping back in time, and although it’s very cold filming on location, I’m wearing long johns under my bustle.”
While Boyle preps for this new role, a new season of “Britain’s Got Talent” is filming audition rounds across Britain. The show will return to ITV next month in hopes of landing another international star … though it seems unlikely there is another Boyle out there. You can find out more about this new season by heading over to the link here.
