Susan Boyle proves she's a good bet after Ladbrokes job flurry - STV News

Susan Boyle proves she's a good bet after Ladbrokes job flurry

Susan Boyle
A good bet: Susan Boyle has sparked excitement at her local Ladbrokes bookmakers after enquiring about a jobRex/Nils Jorgensen

Susan Boyle has sparked a huge flurry of attention at her local bookmakers – but rather than pundits looking to put on bets on whether she’s about to hit the number one spot, instead they're enquiring about a job vacancy at the branch, that SuBo was keen on.
A few weeks ago it was reported that staff in a West Lothian branch of Ladbrokes were left open-mouthed when the globally successful millionaire singer had popped in to ask about a £100-a-week vacancy that had been advertised.
Ladbrokes Deputy manager David Corr said at the time: “Susan Boyle walked into the shop and enquired about the job advertised in our window. We were all in shock.”
But while the bookies was taken aback by Susan’s request, she’s had a great effect on application rates – with bosses receiving ten times the number of average applications for such a position.
A spokesman for Ladbrokes is quoted telling The Sun: “We had an amazing response after new broke that Susan was in the running.
“There’s been a real feel-good factor in the shop since she came to see us.”
Despite her enquiries about the role, which included quizzing the deputy manager all about the part-time role, she later decided against throwing her ring in the hat.
But Ladbrokes have said that any time SuBo wants a job she only needs to drop by and she’ll be met with open arms.
“Punters would love to see her taking their bets and she could even sing Congratulations as they collect their winnings.
“Hopefully she’ll pop in again soon and we’ll give her a free bet on Britain’s Got Talent.”
Susan’s been turning heads as she shuns the lavish celebrity lifestyle to live it up in various locations around where she feels most comfortable – Scotland.
Snapping up some gorgeous vintage clothes and accessories, the star dropped by Vintage Guru in the city’s West End, where she bought a 60s boucle fox trim coat, a Victorian cane, 40s gauntlet gloves and a bracelet.

Susan Boyle 'sparkles' as she hits vintage shop in Glasgow’s West End

Paw-fect! Susan Boyle enjoys some retail therapy at Vintage Guru in Glasgow's West EndJennifer Cocozza

Susan Boyle headed to Glasgow’s picturesque West End yesterday afternoon to indulge in a spot of vintage shopping.

Susan loves to sparkle and is a big fan of costume jewellery so she ventured to Byres Road to splash some of her well earned cash.

Staff at Vintage Guru were delighted when they spotted the singing sensation looking through their well stocked rails.

Vintage Guru owner Jennifer Cocozza told STV’s Laura Boyd that Susan was “a pleasure and a real darling” to have in the store.

She said: “She bought a 60s boucle fox trim coat, a Victorian cane, 40s gauntlet gloves and a bracelet. She was laughing smiling and trying stuff on.”

Susan had a ball looking through the dresses and coats from different eras and she stayed for almost an hour, laughing and joking with the staff.

She was more than happy to pose for pictures and sign autographs and Jennifer added that she was “very kind and warm-hearted, with a sparkling personality.”

Susan isn’t the only star to have indulged in a spot of retail therapy at Vintage Guru.

Last year, American singer Lana Del Rey spent time in the shop, dubbing Glasgow “a second home.”

We can’t wait to see Susan step out in her fancy coat and cane. Send us a picture, Susan!

1
I believe that this entire journey over the last four and a half years has been a gift. My life turned around over night and I honestly believe my mother helped this to happen. Never in my wildest dreams did I think for a second that I would be able to have such a wonderful career. I thank God everyday for the blessings. I've been incredibly lucky and I honestly believe it is down to a higher power.
2
It is a very strongly worded quote from Shakespeare that essentially says a man who doesn't enjoy music is set for bad things. I don't really agree with this strong statement, however I do believe that all of us are touched or moved by music, some to a lesser degree than others but I don't believe that those who don't resonate with music are set for a life of bad.

3
For me I harness the emotion I have felt over my life and put it into my voice. We have all had immense sadness or happiness and I capture the emotion that I felt and sign my heart out. I use memories and life experiences that all of us at some point have gone through to make it real and resonate to the listeners.
4
I don't feel qualified to answer that. The beauty of our industry is the diversity of artists. You cannot pigeon hole an artist or make assumptions that because they are different they don't qualify as an artist. Diversity is the greatest part of this industry and whilst I'm sure many don't believe I qualify as an artist, I'm fortunate to have been given an amazing opportunity and embraced by so many people who do see me as one.
5
The last time I was in Italy was for San Remo in 2010, so I'm due a visit. I would love to visit Italy again and perform over there again. Here's hoping I can at some point.
6
I can safely say I have realised every dream and more. My career year on year just gets better and better. There are moments that not even I would have deemed possible. I never could have imagined I'd be so fortunate to have done so much. I have a wonderful team around me who have afforded me so many remarkable opportunities. I'm very lucky.
7
Don't ever give up on hope. TO give up on hope would be a disaster. Life is tough and it has it's up's and down's but hope and action get you through. Don't let people make you look negatively at yourselves. If you have a dream or a goal go out there and make it happen. Only you can make the changes necessary in life, it doesn't just fall into your lap. Go out with your head held high and make it happen. That would be my advice. Only you can change your life. If I had never stepped onto the BGT stage my life today would never have happened. Be brave!
8
Making people happy is what make me happy. It's simple. I just want people to be happy and enjoy the music.
9
Not really, they are good questions though. It's the first time I've had a Shakespeare question!
10
My future plans: touring England and Wales in March and April of this year, hopefully continuing the tour worldwide, maybe some more TV/movie work. Definitely a sixth album and to keep going as long as possible. I love what I do and I don't want it to end.

Tribute letter to Susan Boyle written by David Crane on Facebook today.
Thank you for sharing.

Dear Susan,
April 4th in Bristol I will be in the audience with my dear wife Jan. We are both looking forward to seeing you in concert. This for me personally is a dream come true, to which I have been praying for and as the days come closer to seeing you, I am becoming a little nervous but happy at the same time.
I hope you still have the paintings I sent you and I promise I have more in progress to which I will post to you asap.
You dear Susan have been an inspiration to me personally to which I will ever be grateful to you. Not only in my paintings for you but, and get this, I am undertaking at this time an Open Degree via The Open University. Doing Health Sciences and Psychology and this time, to progress to other subjects on completion. Yes my dear Susan you have inspired me to do this and at my tender age of 62, it will take me six years to complete the Open Degree.
You dear Susan have and continue to inspire many around the world. Personally from me to you..... thank you Susan. You are loved by many and this guy love you for not only for your music but for being just You.
I hope and pray that I am able to say `hello` to you in Bristol and if I may, please perhaps and hug. I dreamed a dream Susan, thank you for being an inspiration for me.
May God continue to bless you in all that you do. My unconditional love and support are yours until the day that I expire. God Bless You Susan.
Much love David xx

Dressed Susan Boyle for China Performance. Scots style queen Joyce Young receives royal accolade - DailyRecord.co.UK

Scots style queen Joyce Young receives royal accolade for leading role in the fashion industry

JOYCE, who will shortly pick up an OBE, has dressed Michelle Obama, Judy Murray, Hillary Clinton - and Susan Boyle.

SHE designed a red silk dress worn by Michelle Obama that has been seen by millions.
And another First Lady, Hillary Clinton, looks incredible in her blue trouser suit.
It’s no wonder Scots designer Joyce Young can’t contain her smile when she reveals her breathtaking outfits have even found themselves on the two famous women’s waxworks in Madame Tussauds in Washington DC.
Joyce, who turns 60 next week, has dressed everyone from Susan Boyle to Judy Murray. And she will pick up a much-deserved OBE from the Queen next month for her tireless work in the fashion industry.
She said: “I was totally surprised when I got my letter about the OBE. I never expect success, although it’s fantastic to achieve.
“The past few years have certainly been a happy time in my life.”

Joyce might just be getting her royal accolade but, for some women, she’s been a celebrity favourite for years.
Her Glasgow-based boutique was inundated with hundreds of Susan Boyle fans when it emerged that she had dressed the Britain’s Got Talent star for her tour of China.
Joyce also designed former model and High Street Honey Clair Meek’s dress when she married Inbetweeners star James Buckley last year.
She said: “People seem to hear about me through word of mouth. Susan Boyle loves a joke and Judy Murray is just lovely. It’s been a pleasure to work with them.
“And the waxworks are easy. The museum’s design department phoned and gave me measurements to design the outfits. It was surreal.”

Joyce, who has two children – Suzie, 32, and Iain, 29 – trained at Glasgow School of Art, graduating with a degree in interior design, embroidery and weaving.
But she was always destined to gravitate towards the fashion industry. At the age of six, she was designing dresses for her dolls and, by her early teens, she was making her own dresses for parties.
Joyce, who lives in Bearsden, Glasgow, with husband Maurice, said: “I always loved working with fabrics, textures and colour. I left college and got a job for a creative designer who manufactured for Marks & Spencer.
“I enjoyed it but felt creatively stifled. We were working for a high street store and limited by price and inexpensive fabrics.
“So, in 1976, I left to set up my own bridal business, Sequin, with another designer.”
But when Joyce fell pregnant with Suzie, she realised she couldn’t juggle her child and her business. She said: “I had a few years out bringing up my children. Then, in 1987, I went back to work for Marks.
“I’d learnt a lot. The second time round, I realised I was translating to the high street from the catwalk. It’s not about your ideas but it’s excellent business training.”
It set her up to go it alone again in 1993. This time, she launched her Cruise collection for the discerning traveller.

She said: “My husband had a company specialising in stitching so the idea was to create a range that could go into a suitcase and not crush.
“We set up our premises in the oldest property in Bearsden and did very well.
“But by 1994, I was getting requests to do bridal again. That’s my handwriting – it’s where I belong.”
Joyce describes her designs as simple and elegant, made from luxurious fabrics ranging from French lace to Chinese silk.
In 1999, Joyce opened her London store and, in 2005, expanded to open Tartan Spirits – with accessories made from contemporary tartan and Harris tweed.
Now, both her bridal collection and Tartan Spirits range are booming – and have been noticed by a string of celebrities.
Joyce dressed Susan Boyle when she received an award at the Scottish Variety Awards, for her 50th birthday and for numerous international shows.
She said: “I dressed Susan in a lovely purple trouser suit for the Variety Awards.”
A few months later, the star asked Joyce to design outfits for her tour of China. She also guest-starred on China’s Got Talent – the most-watched TV show in the world.
Joyce said: “After her appearances in China, we had hundreds of people getting in touch.
“And fans from America often come in to buy her gifts. They love her.”
Last year, Joyce was asked to design Judy Murray’s outfit for Andy’s visit to Buckingham Palace to collect his OBE.
Joyce said: “Judy just popped in and chose an outfit in the Wimbledon colours of emerald and purple. It was so appropriate.”
Joyce has been debating over what to wear for collecting her own OBE next month but has settled on an outfit.
She joked: “It has to be my design. I settled on blue in the end. It’s the colour of my eyes, which is a colour that suits everybody, and it’s royal. It is such an honour.”

Is Susan Boyle Heading To A Ladbrokes Near You?

THANKS, BUT NO THANKS!!!!!

Susan Boyle knows that Ladbrokes Has Talent!

Is Susan Boyle Heading To A Ladbrokes Near You?
Is Susan Boyle Heading To A Ladbrokes Near You?
Is Susan Boyle Heading To A Ladbrokes Near You?
She’s sold nearly 20 million albums worldwide, has performed at the biggest concerts on the most prestigious stages all over the world and has even launched an acting career – but Susan Boyle knows that Ladbrokes Has Talent!
The 52-year old Scot recently made news when she entered her local Laddies branch in Blackburn, Lothian to enquire about a cashiers’ job which she’d seen advertised. Despite a reported personal fortune of over £20 million, it seems that even one of the most talented singers in the world can’t resist the lure of Ladbrokes! Of seeing the Britain’s Got Talent runner-up stroll into their branch, deputy manager of our Blackburn branch David Corr (no relation!) told the papers: "Susan Boyle walked into the shop and inquired about the job advertised in our window. We were all in shock. She explained she was really keen on working there and she lives nearby. Obviously she doesn’t need the money so I think she saw it as a way of getting her out of her house.”
Susan has never been a lady to go for all the glitz and glamour which surrounds our TV and music stars; she has lived in the same four-bedroom council house in Blackburn all her life – although she now owns it – despite also shelling out £300,000 for a second home. The few major TV interviews she has given described her ‘routine’ life before becoming a TV and internet sensation, while she comes across as a firmly grounded lady who would rather volunteer at her local church (which she still does) than attend some big celebrity bash.
Asking after a part-time job in one of our branches is just another way for SuBo to show her love for the community, where she’s just another one of the locals and doesn’t want to be treated any other way. Her humility, gentle and fun nature and phenomenal singing talent are exactly what makes her such a special person in the eyes of her Lothian family, and in ours too – Susan, the Ladbrokes job’s yours if you still want it!
