They must – I’ve seen several salons and dentists in Coatbridge and Airdrie who offer it.
Well, I’m ready to come out of the cosmetic closet. I admit it. I have dabbled.
I am in no way vain but a few years ago I won £300 worth of ‘fillers’ in a raffle. Feeling a bit dubious about the whole thing, I thought there’d be no harm in popping in for a consultation. Before you could say ‘Lesley Ash’ I was being pumped with the poison.
It took a week before my face froze and for the next five months I had a constant look of surprise on my coupon.
As a grass-is-always-greener kinda guy, I had wrinkle envy.
Watching TV and seeing actors with real character on their face left me pining for my beautiful laughter lines. Even singing Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar – a song that gets me every time - I looked ridiculous crying with a face like a Hallowe’en cake.
On Monday, I looked exhausted after a hectic weekend of work.
I caught sight of myself in the mirror and jumped when I thought Lizzy Birdsworth (Cell Block H) was staring back at me. On impulse, I booked an appointment with a botox nurse I had recently met.
I’d worked Saturday night in Edinburgh and arrived home late with only a few hours to catch up on some much-needed beauty sleep. I was up again with the birds the next morning for a full day of performances.
I really needed the spa day I had booked at The Blythswood Hotel the following morning. There is nothing a day of relaxation and pampering won't fix and instantly I felt better. I decided I didn’t look that bad either and chickened out of my meeting with the nurse.
One person who certainly doesn’t need any work done is the lovely Susan Boyle. I recently had the pleasure of meeting SuBo (apparently she is a fan) when Heart Radio’s Cat Harvey introduced us at a lunch I was singing at.
Cat plays the Kazoo and had, at a previous bash, played I Dreamed A Dream which Susan sang along to. I’d loved to have heard that duet, but I was happy enough that my BGT pal danced when I sang Proud Mary and did all the moves. I passed on my card in case she fancied another collaboration.
I’m dusting down my recorder just in case.
Opportunity knocked when Brenda Cochrane called me up to talk about the Donna Mortimer ball. We are both performing there this weekend. Every year there is a surprise guest (last year it was JLS) and we were trying to guess who it might be.
They won’t tell me in case I write about it but I’m thinking (hoping) it’s Gary Barlow. Brenda is off to work on a cruise ship so I nipped her ear for advice on how I could get myself aboard. Watch this space...
