Cat Harvey: Susan Boyle's Ice Bucket Challenge felt like Hogmanay

Cat Harvey: Susan Boyle's Ice Bucket Challenge felt like Hogmanay in the seventies and I loved it

CAT accepted an invite to go to Susan Boyle's quaint home in Blackburn, and throw a bucket of water over her in front of an audience of tight-knit friends.

Susan Boyle braves the Ice-bucket challenge

THIS week I poured a bucket of iced water over a global superstar’s head.
While the ice bucket challenge has been on the go for some time, I’ve never laughed as much as I did on Monday night when I found myself in a back garden in Blackburn, partially drowning a giggling Susan Boyle in a swimsuit, who was fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support.
After watching Jose Mourinho nominate James McAvoy and getting a result, for a laugh I nominated my pals from primary school and arguably the most famous Scot in the world – Susan Boyle.
I didn’t expect a reply. But, thanks to social media, word was out and within two days her lovely wee pal Sadie got in touch saying Susan was ‘up for it’ and did I want to go to her garden to help? Wild Horses wouldn’t stop me.
Since achieving worldwide fame on BGT, Susan has had an incredible journey of highs and lows. Her adoring fans in the UK are plentiful but in America she is on another stratosphere of the celebrity ladder. She is A+ and some.
Yet she is a homebody. Much has been written about her decision to stay in Blackburn and keep the family home. Well, I’ve been a guest and it is 100 per cent the right thing to do.

Susan's video is above, or click on link below:

She’s happy and surrounded with genuine people and close friends.
On the day of her drenching, her garden was full of people she’s known for years.
Kirstie the local butcher was there along with Margaret and John – who put her bucket out on a Tuesday if she’s away filling stadiums – and, of course, Sadie and Lorraine, who go everywhere with her.
Preparing for the challenge, Susan emerged in a dressing gown carrying an American flag for Donny Osmond, who also nominated her.
She chose to disrobe and face the challenge in a swimsuit, proving she’s brave and confident. As someone who can’t even bare my arms, I was genuinely in awe of her carefree approach.
When she thanked ‘Donny Osmond and Cat Harvey’ for nominating her, I nearly exploded with excitement.
I really have to learn to be cool but, come on, SuBo mentioning your name in the same sentence as.. Oh OK, just me then.

With a small rubber duck balanced on her head, Susan sang I Dreamed A Dream beautifully before we poured gallons of icy water over her. From then on the angelic notes were replaced with howls of laughter.
After drying off we sat in her house eating pizza as she showed me her new piano skills.
I mentioned I used to play and, before I knew it, I was accompanying her through a sing-song of Burns, hits from the musicals and Caledonia, which everyone joined in with.
It felt like Hogmanay in the 70s and I loved every second. As I left, she gave me a hug and a bottle of champagne for ‘making the effort to come out and see me’.
Yes, she is unique but I just adore her. Although I am kind of gutted I never nominated Bradley Cooper as well.

"Susan Boyle proves she's a good sport as she does the Ice Bucket Challenge in a floral swimsuit" - by Mail Online

Susan Boyle proves she's a good sport as she does the Ice Bucket Challenge in a floral swimsuit
But few have seen her singing her favourite tune while having three buckets worth of ice cold water poured over her head.
Good sport Susan became the latest British celebrity to complete her Ice Bucket Challenge on Monday and, luckily, she was suitably clad in a floral swimsuit for the occasion.

The former Britain's Got Talent contestant, who became an internet sensation when she sang in front of Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell on the show, headed down to the garden to be showered with water for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Wearing a green-striped turban and a floral swimming costume, Susan gathered a crowd in her back garden to watch her complete a video for the viral charity campaign.
The 53-year-old singer wasn't shy about putting her pins on show as she sat on a dining room chair, outside, and was interviewed about her imminent soaking.

She said: 'I'm wearing a cozy, a scarf wrapped round me head, I've got the American flag and I've got flip flops on.
'I am doing it for MacMillan, I wish to thank everyone who nominated me, I wish to nominate Piers Morgan, Cindy Boyle and Benny Mulhern.'

Keeping her characteristic grin and infectiously sweet giggle about her, the singer said there was no time to feel nervous before exclaiming, 'Let's get on with it!'
Star soaking: Being a good sport, the singer even threw a huge tub of water over her own head when the others had finished

Getting three sizeable buckets of water tipped over her head from all angles while singing the Les Miserables show tune, Susan nearly suffered an unfortunate nipple slip as the straps of her costume struggled under the weight of the water and her turban fell down around her neck.
But, taking on the challenge in spectacular style, the singer even chucked a tub of water over her own head to the amusement of onlookers.
She then stood up and waved her American flag in one hand while dancing around her garden in Blackburn.
