September 24, 2013, Posted in Coming Soon, New Release
The Christmas Candle is likely the most hyped Christmas movie release of 2013. While most of the media coverage centers on Susan Boyle’s movie debut and Rick Santorum’s first foray as an executive movie producer we hope the attention soon shifts to story — that’s where the real hope is for this movie.Based on the book by Max Lucado, the family holiday movie is to open in theaters Nov. 22. It co-stars Samantha Barks, Hans Matheson, Lesley Manville, Sylvester McCoy, John Hannah, Barbara Flynn and James Cosmo.
Boyle is best known for her stunning rendition of “I Dreamed a
Dream” on the singing competition show “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2009. She has since released four hit studio albums.
Her original single “Miracle Hymn” is the anthem of “The Christmas Candle” and can be heard on her upcoming holiday album, “Home for Christmas,” set for release Oct. 29.
“What better time to share an inspirational movie than at Christmastime? People want movies that inspire, and that’s what we can deliver. ‘The Christmas Candle’ reminds us that Christmas is not just about reindeer and shopping, it’s about hope and miracles,” Rick Santorum, chief executive officer of EchoLight Studios, said in a statement.
“Classic movies like ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ show us that even in the most difficult times, we can hold on to the hope that surrounds Christmas,” the former U.S. senator added. “We made ‘The Christmas Candle’ in that same tradition.”
The film marks the 2012 Republican presidential candidate’s first major project in the film and entertainment business.

‘Britain’s Got Talent’ alum Susan Boyle’s movie role and a surprising connection
From “Britain’s Got Talent” to music to stage … and now to cinema. Susan Boyle is clearly the biggest star to ever come out of the “Talent” franchise anywhere around the globe (though Terry Fator here in America is also enormously wealthy), and she has now found yet another way to have her talent shown off.
Sources confirm that Boyle is going to be appearing in the upcoming movie “The Christmas Candle,” which is something that we actually first told you about earlier this year. What is somewhat new to the story, at least for us and some others, is the involvement of former GOP Presidential candidate Rick Santorum. This is his first project since taking over as the CEO of EchoLight Studios, and he had the following to say about the project:
“The Christmas Candle reminds us that Christmas is not just about reindeer and shopping, it’s about hope and miracles. Classic movies like It’s a Wonderful Life show us that even in the most difficult times, we can hold on to the hope that surrounds Christmas. We made The Christmas Candle in that same tradition.”
This movie, set for release this holiday season, is centered around a small town where miracles occur once every 25 years. Boyle will of course do more than just act in the movie, as she will also yield her voice to the soundtrack. She has a new Christmas album coming out in Home for Christmas, and her song “Miracle Hymn” is going to serve as the anthem for the movie.
As for the future of “Britain’s Got Talent” itself, the show is going to be back on the air in the spring. There’s no word on the future of the judging panel, but we expect Simon Cowell to be back once again along with David Walliams, Alesha Dixon, and Amanda Holden. Want to read more? Susan Boyle to make movie debut in Christmas film
By Jeff Labrecque on Sep 24, 2013 at 10:36AM
Susan Boyle, the eccentric British woman who became a worldwide sensation after singing “I Dreamed a Dream” on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009, will make her movie debut in The Christmas Candle, a family film based on Max Lucardo’s book about the Christmas miracles that occur every 25 years in a small candle-lit English village since 1890. Boyle will appear in the ensemble movie, and of course, her voice is featured prominently. Her new single, “Miracle Hymn,” from her upcoming holiday album, Home for Christmas, serves as the film’s anthem.

The movie also has a Les Misérables connection: Samantha Barks, who played Eponine in the recent big screen version, stars as a “lovely skeptic” who takes sides with a new progressive minister who wants to replace the town’s candles with electricity.
The film is also the first movie from EchoLight Studios since former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum became its CEO. “The Christmas Candle reminds us that Christmas is not just about reindeer and shopping, it’s about hope and miracles,” said Santorum, in a statement. “Classic movies like It’s a Wonderful Life show us that even in the most difficult times, we can hold on to the hope that surrounds Christmas. We made The Christmas Candle in that same tradition.”
The Christmas Candle is set for release on Nov. 22.
