Susan Boyle to perform extra special gig in Edinburgh this summer
Susan Boyle fans will be thrilled to hear that the singing sensation is due to perform in Edinburgh this summer.
The Britain’s Got Talent star will take to the stage at the refurbished Odeon on Clerk Street on August 11, as part of her brother Gerry’s new venture to transform the venue into an entertainment complex, in time for this year’s Edinburgh Festival.
According to the Scotsman, Gerry said that Susan will treat fans to a preview of tracks from her fifth-album, which she is working on at the moment.
The venue is set to be called The Instant Arena and Mr Boyle is said to have teamed up with entertainment guru Tony Jo, to ensure top acts are shared between the Edinburgh venue and Blackpool Opera House.
He has also struck a deal with Laurent-Perrier champagne, telling the paper: “Things are on schedule. The wonderful news is that Laurent-Perrier champagne have confirmed that they’re involved as well. It’s a commercial partnership.
“They’re going to come up to Edinburgh with a design team and invest in the structure of the building. In return, it goes without saying, that we will be retailing their champagne. We hope to begin refurbishing the building as early as May.”
The Instant Arena will feature a 600-seat theatre, a coffee lounge and a tearoom and champagne bar named after Susan.
Earlier this year, Gerry told the Edinburgh Evening News: “We’re all very proud of her as a family, so why not? She’d expressed in the past that she’d like to have some sort of tearoom interest, so we said, 'We’ve got the premises, why don’t you do that?'
“She’ll be popping in and out. Obviously, her schedule means she won’t always be in Edinburgh, but it’s, if you can imagine, a wee pet project and she’ll be quite happy.
