Thousands of people set to arrive in Bathgate for major celebration
Anticipation is building for Bathgate 2014 which is set to take place later this month.
On Saturday, May 31, thousands of performers from around 140 pipe bands will descend on the West Lothian town for the EFR British Pipe Band Championships – the first major of the year.
They will be joined by dancers and sportspeople from the Calor Scotland West Lothian Highland Games.
And to add an extra touch of sparkle to the event is the event’s chieftain, singing sensation and local lass Susan Boyle.
Alex Linkston is on the organising committee and said he’s looking forward to the event.
He said: “There has been an immense amount of work done by our voluntary committee bringing this massive event to life.
“We are absolutely delighted all that work is about to come to fruition with the event just weeks away.
“It’s going to be a fantastic day with fun for all the family. There will be a real buzz in Bathgate. This is the first time the two events have run on the same day and we think it will bring a fantastic festival atmosphere.
“With Susan Boyle as our chieftain, we’ve helped put our event on the world stage which makes it even more exciting.”
One ticket, priced at £10 for an adult and £5 for a child, will offer access to both Meadow Park and Burgh Muir Park where there will be fun for all the family including Highland dancing, heavy athletics competitions and pipe band competitions.
The Calor Scotland West Lothian Highland Games are now in their 43rd year and attract thousands of people to Bathgate each year from across Scotland.
The Calor Scotland British Pipe Band Championships are being hosted in the town for the second time as part of a three-year deal. Tickets are available at www.ticketweb.co.uk. For more information visit www.bathgate2014.com.
