SHE’S played sell-out concerts around the world - but now Susan Boyle has done her toughest gig yet...
A grilling with heavyeight TV host Andrew Neill on his late-night politics programme, This Week.
The show features hard-hitting interviews with some of the biggest names in British politics.
But feisty Susan more than held her own with former newspaper editor Neil.
Labour voter Susan appeared on the show in the early hours yesterday to talk about her Scottish roots.
Proud Scot Susan told Neil that around the world “people were more accepting of Scottish people. . . ”
Susan, who has sold 19million records worldwide, joked that she wasn’t saying any more when asked if she meant in comparison to the English.
Susan, 53, from Blackburn, West Lothian, said: “It’s a conscious decision to stay close to my roots as it’s part of one’s identity.
“You have to have your identity to survive.
“You can lose you identity when you become famous as people expect you to behave in different ways.
“It keeps me grounded.”
During the programme, viewers were treated to a spoof of Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting, starring Tommy Sheridan.
The Socialist politician and Independence campaigner recreated the iconic opening scene by running through the streets of Edinburgh telling Scots to “Choose life” and vote “Yes” in the referendum this year.
He said: “Choose life. Choose more jobs. Choose more homes.”
And continued with: “Choose spending on hospitals and schools not immoral nuclear bombs.”
Other guests included Scottish-Italian violinist Nicola Benedetti, alongside Neil’s regular sidekicks Labour MP Diane Abbott, former Tory minister Michael Portillo. Also joining them was Lib Dem politician Charles Kennedy.
