Susan Boyle prepares for next performance

TEAM WORK: Susan Boyle with trainer Kirstin Barclay at Tisbury yesterday.

Jonny Cox will be retained as the driver of Susan Boyle.
He picked up an unexpected driving win behind the mare at Ascot Park on August 12. Susan Boyle was to be driven by her Tisbury trainer Kirstin Barclay, but she took ill and was replaced by Cox.
''I can't break up a winning combination,'' Barclay quipped yesterday.
Barclay fears Susan Boyle might miss a start at Gore on Sunday because of a lack of entries for the $3000 one-win mobile. Only seven horses have been entered.
Named after a famous Scottish singer, Susan Boyle has trained up to expectations since her debut win in a maiden fillies and mares' race at Ascot Park.
''I hoppled her today and she felt really sharp,'' said Barclay, who races the daughter of Falcon Seelster on lease with Tisbury owner-trainer Tony Kilkelly and Ray Fidow and Jo Sheat, of Dunedin.
Barclay's other two training wins have also been at Ascot Park - Maravu Kizzy (February, 2011) and Clickety Clack (November 2005).
One of her goals this season is to reach 200 career driving wins. She is on 186.
''It would be nice to get it this season.''

Dumbarton man’s bid to inspire Scotland

A FORMER youth and communities worker has enlisted the help of Susan Boyle and First Minister Alex Salmond in his mission to inspire Scottish people on to success.
Callum Smith has also been backed by rowing champion Katherine Grainger, who won gold at the London Olympics, as he pieces together a unique book aimed at spurring the average person on to glory.
They are among many famous Scots who have joined the Olympians in providing quotes to be included in ‘Hopes of a Nation’, which the Dumbarton man reckons could change the mindset of people with no aspirations.
Callum, a former Community Links Scotland worker, has been involved in trying to turn around deprived areas around Scotland including parts of Dumbarton and Vale of Leven.
He said: “I have spent the last 12 years of my life working in the most excluded communities in Scotland. My overwhelming experience when speaking to local people was that they had no hope for the future.
“The idea that any child is born into any community in Scotland with no hope is abhorrent to me and this is why I am pursuing my Hopes of a Nation Project.
“I want to inspire people to make their lives better and strive for change.
“This will be a book about hope for Scotland by all the people of Scotland.”
The book, which is still being compiled, was showcased at a launch event in Glasgow’s Mitchell Library last Thursday and proceeds from future sales will be donated to the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).
Callum is also running competitions for ordinary people to contribute their quotes.
The book is just part of a wider Hopes of a Nation project as Callum is aiming to share the collection of inspirational messages across the country through workshops. He has gained sponsorship from RBS but welcomes support from other businesses who would like to get on board.
Olympic hero Katherine Grainger said: “Scotland is recognised worldwide for its pride, tenacity, creative innovation and ability to fight against any perceived limits, and also for its inspiring cities and breathtaking countryside, and for the humour and friendliness of the people here.
“I am proud of our nation for all those things and more, and I hope we can continue to show our best face to the world and never become complacent with what we have achieved.
“Let’s be proud of what we have and whom we are but look forward to how much more we can be.”
Gordon Merrylees, RBS managing director for business banking, said: “Callum is an inspiring person and we are delighted to support his fantastic project.”

Dress to take centre stage at SuBo show

AN exhibition on singing sensation Susan Boyle is to be held at her local theatre after fans snapped up one of her dresses for more than £6000.
Bosses at the Regal Theatre in Bathgate, West Lothian – where she is patron – are planning to pay tribute to the star after generous fans donated the dress to the attraction.
They bought the silver grey silk dress, which the singer had donated to the Prince’s Trust, for £6532 and now the Regal plans to make it the centrepiece of an exhibition chronicling the life of the Britain’s Got Talent star.
The theatre is now the hunt for other pieces of SuBo memorabilia to put on display.
Stephen Darroch, theatre manager, said: “We had been trying to think of ideas for a tribute to Susan ever since she kindly agreed to become our patron earlier this year.
“We were contacted by the ladies who got together to buy her dress and they said it they would like to donate it to us.
“It was a very kind gesture and we decided that we should put it on display and make it part of an exhibition on Susan.
“We are just currently putting together plans and it will hopefully happen later this year or next year to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the theatre.

Susan Boyle’s Charity Choices

Susan Boyle’s Charity Choices
When Susan Boyle’s manager, Andy Stephens, spent time with some of her fans recently at a Fan Meet in London, England, he told them Susan was inundated daily with offers and requests to appear on various shows, etc. It is interesting to see what Susan’s choices are - in particular, when it comes to charity.
We have so many reasons to be proud of Susan, not least among them is her already impressive giving of her time to ‘good works’ as they say. Following is a look at charitable events Susan has chosen to be involved in one way or another in the short time since she’s become famous…....

Indsamling Charity Gala, Tivoli Concert Hall, Copenhagen - Susan appeared to sing to help raise funds for Haitian Relief.

In conjunction with the release of ‘The Gift’, RM5 will be donated by both CD-RAMA and Sony Music to the “Precious Children’s Home” for every copy of ‘The Gift’ album that is sold at any CD-RAMA outlets from 16th of November to 19th of December 2010. At the end of the charity drive, a total of RM5,000 was collected from the sale of ‘The Gift’ albums.

Things No One But Susan Boyle Has Achieved

Things No One But Susan Boyle Has Achieved
It is natural that we feel some disappointment that Susan did not win a Grammy, but ....... lots of people have won Grammys. Susan has achieved some things that no other singer ever has - and that is quite a feat….............
Not Barbra Streisand, not Aretha Franklin, not Celine Dion, not Lady Gaga, no one but Susan has….....
sold more in presales worldwide on Amazon.com
sold over half a million albums each week for five weeks in a row in the USA
sold over a million albums worldwide, each week for six weeks in a row. The closest is the Beatles at 3 weeks.
Susan Boyle’s ‘Dream’ is the fastest selling album in history with 8.3 million sold in just six weeks.
and no solo artist but Susan Boyle has ever had two albums open at #1 in both the USA and the UK within 12 months.
and only Susan has ever had a Christmas Album reach #1 in the UK.
and Susan is the only woman ever to reach #1 in the USA with a Christmas Album.
And that Christmas Album had the most successful first week for a Holiday Album in history, was the best selling Holiday Album of 2010 and the only one to reach #1 on the World Chart.
No one Susan’s age has ever reached (never mind opened at) #1 with a debut album.
and of course - no other woman has ever had a more successful debut album - ever.
These are some of the things unique to Susa

At 71 years Placido Domingo Adventures by sounds pop

Placido Domingo believes that these issues are difficult to interpret. " People think that the themes are easy pop. But present them to the public and make them special is incredibly exciting , "says the tenor. " And yet, anyone at home can sing them in the shower , "he adds. The experience is not new, for about 20 years Placido Domingo trod the same territory playing love songs of the Beatles and Elvis Presley.
One of the interpretations he considers most tender is What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. Duet with his son tenor Placido Domingo Jr. admits that the passage "I hear babies cry," did you remember about your children and grandchildren while he sang.
In addition to his son the singer sharing the themes with various artists.

Susan Boyle, famous for the contest Britain's Got Talent, interprets From This Moment On, 90 years of success of Shania Twain.
Zaz The French singer and Broadway Megan Hilty also share songs with the tenor.
Placido Domingo was born in Spain but was educated in Mexico, which approximates their memory of the successes of South America.
Firstly the classic Bésame mucho famous Mexican song, which had been previously recorded, for example, the 1992 disc, Love Until the End of Time. Send back again, to be published here, arranged by trumpeter Chris Botti. But he also writes a music of Brazil, Girl From Ipanema, who recently did 50 years, and success Celos Castilian.

Another focus of the disk goes to movie themes. The song Come What May, the film Moulin Rouge, is interpreted here as a duet with Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins. The Godfather and The Charlie Chaplin movie Limelight are also remembered here.
Placido Domingo with a long career made mainly on the opera stages, plus a career as a conductor, he admits that "Songs" was one of its biggest challenges. This album, first released since signing the contract with Sony Classical, attests to his phrase " If you stop, start to get rusty. "

Susan Boyle on song for Barclay

Susan Boyle's win at Ascot Park yesterday lifted the spirits of her trainer Kirstin Barclay.
She was to drive the mare in the Cue TV 110 Pace, along with Neat N Petite in the www.southlandharness.co.nz Pace. But a bout of flu and a sinus infection forced her to leave the course after race one.
''I felt really guttered when I wasn't there (for the win),'' Barclay said last night.
Tisbury trainer Tom Kilkelly and his staff harnessed Susan Boyle for yesterday's maiden race. Kilkelly and Barclay own the Falcon Seelster mare with Ray Fidow and Jo Sheat, of Dunedin.
Kilkelly was also looking after Christchurch pacer Borntobeanartist, who won the Happy 18th Courtney Dempster Pace. The 4-year-old Artsplace entire returns to West Melton trainers Paul and Graham Court today.
Mosgiel trainer Alan Clark was delighted with The Fiery Ginga's fresh-up win in the Not Just Shoes Discretionary Handicap Trot.
''It was a tremendous run first-up.''

Britain’s Got Talent Breaks A Billion On YouTube

While ITV1 are preparing for the return of their most popular talent contest The X Factor in just over a week’s time, it is another Simon Cowell-owned show that is taking headlines, as the official YouTube channel for Britain’s Got Talent has YouTube channel has reached over 1 billion views.
The channel, which provides full repeats of all key performances from the show, broke the milestone this week, counting the total of all ‘hits’ for all their 596 videos, with the channel also currently holding over 370,000 subscribers.
Fremantle Media UK are the production company behind Britain’s Got Talent and by extension have partial responsibility for the YouTube hub, as their chairman Peter Cassidy said of the show: “[It] is not just a national treasure but a global sensation. Along with The X Factor UK, it’s one of the most successful YouTube channels in any country, in any genre. We look forward to the next billion.”
The landmark will be seen as a big one, especially considering that it is a relatively small ‘dominant share’ at the top, with only 12% of the total views having come from the top 4 videos on the site, though the clips have attracted high viewing figures on their own merit through the official channel, with a surprise breakaway leader being child singer Natalie Okri, whose audition has so far taken in 54m views since 2009.
That appeared to be a vintage year for the show’s talent viewed on YouTube (also being the year that the channel was launched), as it provided the remainder of the top 4 (the only videos on the channel to attract over 20m views) in the form of flatulent musical performer ’Mr. Methane’ (on nearly 22m hits), viral hit Susan Boyle (a surprising third in the listings despite her popularity in syndication), and eventual season 3 winners Diversity, all of which can be seen below:
