When BBC news presenter Susan Osman came to China, there was a fair amount of interest not least because many questions were asked. Why would a BBC journalist come to China? How would she cope? The breakfast daily live news programme, The Beijing Hour with Susan Osman for China Radio International (CRI) was to be the state radio's flagship programme; so how would the audience react? Who was this Susan Osman anyway? It was during this time that Susan Boyle was becoming well known for her beautiful voice and her much publicized album, "I Dreamed a Dream". Both Susans were in China at the same time and Susan Osman had always wanted to meet Susan Boyle as they had both been associated with one another and she liked her singing. Well, this summer Susan Osman had her chance. Whilst visiting Bath in England, Susan's son Matthew, who encouraged his mother to work and live in China after doing an internship in Shanghai rang her to say, "You'll never guess who is here at the hotel? Susan Boyle!" It was too good an opportunity to miss, so Susan Osman rushed to join her son but by the time she had arrived, Susan Boyle had gone. It was a lovely sunny afternoon, so Susan Osman and her son sat in the garden of the hotel where Susan Boyle was obviously staying. Then the moment came. A diminutive, glamorous brunette appeared in the garden dressed for an evening out. Susan Boyle was walking in the hotel garden. This was her chance, so Susan Osman introduced herself and told her about her connection to China, the mix-up in identities and the confusion that their shared name caused. This was a photographic opportunity not to be missed. A picture was snapped of the two Susans and Susan Boyle signed a photograph of herself for all the listeners of China Radio International (CRI). Both Susans left one another with big smiles after such a happy coincidence. Susan had, at last, met Susan.
