Fans meeting at River Rocks restaurant for M&G before the Melbourne concert.

Fans meeting at River Rocks restaurant for M&G before the Melbourne concert on Nov. 2, 2014.  Notice the life size poster of Susan Boyle. Ethel had this made especially for this meeting (political signs were being made and she got the idea from that).  Wasn't that a great idea? There were over 20 fans celebrating and coming together because of Susan Boyle.  It is so amazing how Susan has brought people from all over the world into her circle of fan friends. None of this would have happened if Susan Boyle didn't try out on BGT in 2009.  Amazing adventure with a wonderful superstar, Ms. Susan Boyle!

What's a Susan Boyle concert like?

Standing ovations, laughs and tears

Ethel Spangler, local organizer of a Susan Boyle meet-and-greet, is very much plugged in to the Scottish singer.
"To me, she can't do any wrong. She's very nice, very quiet and extremely humble," said the die-hard fan, who owns a life-size cardboard display of Boyle. She and 20 other fans, some of whom travel across the country to see Boyle's shows, posed for pictures with it Sunday night at River Rocks in Rockledge.
The group, which keeps in touch via email and phone calls, started wearing red to the concerts to identify themselves as Boyle's rabid fans. How rabid?
"Whoever lives closest to where she's performing, he or she organizes a get-together," Spangler explained. "There are fans who are sitting there waiting to hear, what did Susan wear? What did she do? Who was there? What did she sound like? What did she sing? I know because I know what it's like."
FLORIDA TODAY interviewed Boyle during the summer as the "Britain's Got Talent"-viral sensation-Internet superstar prepared for her first U.S. tour, which kicked off in California on Oct. 8. Sunday night's performance at the King Center in Melbourne was sold out.
I attended the show, which, in large part, had an audience of those retirement age or older. Here's my attempt to answer those questions the rabid Boyle fans have asked.
What was the show like?
-- Throughout the 3-hour show, Boyle performed 24 songs, John Smith aka@MrSuboFan Tweeted to me.
-- Viera High School chorus contributed to three of them.
-- She got cheeky every once in a while, and the audience gave her multiple standing ovations.
-- Her responses were sometimes bawdy, definitely conversational. She was very engaging.
-- Lance Ellington opened and closed the show for her. During one number, they danced together, and Ellington gave Boyle a twirl.
-- The show kicked off with a recording of the "Britain's Got Talent" video from 2009, specifically, Simon Cowell's comments (and hesitations) when he first met Boyle.
-- Throughout the show, Boyle made playful jabs at Cowell. On BGT, she dreamt of singing with Elaine Paige, but the judges panel of Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden were skeptical. Years later, that dream came true (and that video also went viral). On Sunday night, Boyle told the crowd: "See, Simon, I told ya!"
What songs did she sing?
-- "Out Here on My Own"
-- "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"
-- "The Winner Takes it All"
-- "Wild Horses"
-- "You Raise Me Up"
-- "Cry Me a River"
-- "Unchained Melody"
-- "I Dreamed a Dream"
What did she wear?
-- Boyle had three wardrobe changes.
-- She opened the show wearing a pale pink gown with a sequin top, sheer side panels and a feather bodice.
-- Her jewelry: dangly earrings, a very sparkly bracelet and a huge ring on her right hand that "blinded" folks when it caught the light.
-- Boyle wore her hair up with sparkly clips on both sides.
-- The back of her pale pink dress and feather bodice resembled angel wings that tie into a bow.
-- For her second wardrobe change, she wore an indigo blue shift with a sparkly sequined short-sleeve top and indigo satin-y ribbon belt.
-- Her last dress was a long black gown with black straps. A shawl made of black, green and blue feathers covered up her shoulders. For the first dress, she sang 8 songs. For the blue dress, she sang 8-10 songs. For the black dress? Boyle sang 2 songs.
-- As for the shoes, it was simple pumps for Boyle.
What did she sound like?
-- Boyle certainly is on par with Meryl Streep's pipes with her version of "The Winner Takes it All" from "Mamma Mia!" The "Boyle-d" version has a quicker, upbeat background.
-- For the finale, Boyle acknowledged how "this one little song got me in trouble" -- citing the 2009 viral video of her BGT audition -- before belting out "I Dreamed a Dream." Viera High's chorus got a nice shout-out during this one, and the concertgoer next to me, Myrna McKnight of Rockledge, told me, "I'm going to cry."
