Susan Boyle fans treated to 3-hour Melbourne show
"I admire her tenacity and just everything about her. I think she's a good role model for older women," said concertgoer Myrna McKnight of Rockledge.
Susan Boyle squinted to the crowd of 2,000 fans Sunday night at the King Center and told them, "To me, singing songs is like telling stories."
The cheeky Scottish singer definitely has a story to tell. Thanks to an audition on "Britain's Got Talent" and the ire of Simon Cowell, she experienced a supersonic, meteoric rise to fame — and her tale certainly has a happy ending.
"I admire her tenacity and just everything about her. I think she's a good role model for older women," said concertgoer Myrna McKnight of Rockledge.
She started the show with a nod to BGT and Cowell: She entered center stage while a recording of that life-changing reality TV spot played. Throughout the night, she took playful jabs at Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden, the judges panel whom she visibly wowed on the show.

She dreamed a dream: Susan Boyle ready for U.S. tour
"I loved that!" said June Harris, also of Rockledge. "I wonder how Simon liked it?"
Boyle had three wardrobe changes throughout the three-hour concert. Earlier Sunday, a group of 21 die-hard fans — all sporting something red for Susan — met up at River Rocks in Rockledge, eager to find out what she would wear, what songs she would sing, what she would do.
"If you're close to a Susan performance and you've got on red, 90 percent you're going to be one of her fans," organizer Ethel Spangler said. Spangler and the fans, some from as far away as California and Texas, took pictures, sent them and were rewarded for their fandom. They were posted on Boyle's website minutes later, Spangler said.
Boyle sang roughly 20 songs with a surprise appearance by the Viera High School chorus. During one set, the chorus sported red robes. The men of Boyle's seven-piece orchestra donned black suits and red ties.
Throughout the night, Boyle joked with the audience, furrowed her eyebrows in a mock manner and even showed off her piano skills.
The majority of the audience was around retirement age or older.
"We would call her nearly a countryman since she's Scottish. We're Irish, but that's close enough," said Sister Immaculata Knox, who attended the concert with Sister Joseph. The nuns volunteer a lot with Ascension Catholic Church. "She's a wonderful singer, and I would like to be like her when I grow up," Knox joked.
