Susan Boyle’s brother Gerry is planning to follow in his little sister’s footsteps and launch a music career of his very own, it has emerged.

The 57-year-old first got the idea after debuting single All of My Love on a New Zealand radio station for a joke, only to find out that the reception was fairly positive.

Now Gerry - who says Susan, 50, is totally behind his music career - is making plans to launch his first album later this year.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Gerry said: “It’s for the public to decide who is the better singer out of me and Susan but it’s definitely not a competition.

”You can’t just jump on stage and start singing just because your sister has become famous.”

Businessman Gerry added: “Susan is 100 per cent behind me. She’s been shoving me to do this for years and I kept telling her, ‘All in good time’. I haven’t sung with Susan for a very long time but now America is calling out for that, you never know.

“New Zealand and American women who follow Susan think it’s amazing and think Susan and I should do a song together.”

In 2099, Gerry announced that he was launching his own record label and wanted to find the next big star.

He told STV show The Hour: “We’re looking for singer-songwriters. Wouldn’t it be marvellous if we could get the next Lennon/McCartney or indeed Elton John?

”But there has to be Susan Boyles out there, and we think we’ve got the team on board…”
