The acclaimed composer and TV personality speaks about his affection for the Scottish singer and reveals what they have in common.
Andrew Lloyd Webber revealed that he and Susan Boyle share a passion in llfe – and it’s not music…The legendary composer - most famous for his musicals which includeCats - revealed that he feels a “great affection” for the Scottish singing sensation because they are both big fans of the Turkish Van Cat, known for its unusual love of water and swimming.
“…Susan Boyle I have a great affection for, because apparently she has a Turkish Van Cat, and I love Turkish Van Cats, so we apparently have something in common.”
Lloyd Webber added: “I think she’s got a terrific voice, a really terrific voice, she did a great version of Memory (from the musical Cats). And yes, I am a fan.”
Susan Boyle is well known for her love of cats, with the star often talking about her beloved pet Pebbles during interviews.
Lord Lloyd Webber was speaking to stv.tv while in Glasgow launching the search for Superstar, a new show in which he will find a theatre star who will perform in rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar.
Revealing a little more about Superstar, Lloyd Webber said: “One of the things my shows do I hope is that we develop people through the shows, and we help them find [talents] perhaps they didn’t know they had, and that I think is the joy of it all.
”We’re not a talent show which is all about, I don’t know, getting somebody on and slightly ridiculing them, we don’t do that. We’re about trying to find genuine talent, and even if there is just a little flicker I like to be able to develop that flicker.”
He also told stv.tv’s Gill Harvey what kind of performer he is looking to find for the musical.
“We’re looking for somebody who plays the role of Jesus who can hold a great big rock arena, we’re not talking about a theatre show here. It’ll be in te O2 [Arena in London] and it’ll actually play in Glasgow too.
“He’s got to be incredibly charismatic, that is obviously clear, he has also got to have a fantastic singing voice."
