SUSAN BOYLE has told of her shattering breakdown as she struggled to cope with overnight fame.
The singing star admits insecurities plagued her as she became an international star after her success in Britain’s Got Talent in 2009.
And the 51-year-old says memories of being bullied and losing her parents left lasting scars that still affect her today.
But Susan – from Blackburn in West Lothian – reckons she has conquered her demons and is much happier now.
She said: “Four years ago, I was a different person. On a scale of one to 10, I was probably nine.
“I had a lot of insecurity – and I’m still struggling with the insecurity factor.
“I was in a very bad place and had to be helped. At the very beginning, and this was behind closed doors, I wasn’t very nice to know because I wasn’t very well.
“But I think I’ve turned that on its head and I’m ready to move forward now.
“At the time, I found fame very terrifying and very scary but now I feel it sits on my shoulders a lot more comfortably.

“I’ve changed a lot and I can cope a lot better now. I’m calmer.
“I’ve had a lot of teaching and stopped to think about myself.”
In the interview with Australian news and current affairs show Sunday Night, Susan, who is one of nine children, talks about the bullying she suffered as a child.
She said: “I didn’t have an easy start in life. There was a lady at school who used to stub out cigarettes on me and stuff like that.
“I felt scared, isolated and that no one wanted to help me. I was lucky because I had a sister who taught at the same school. She got me the help I needed.”
Susan lived with her parents until they died and says losing her mum in 2007 was difficult.
She said: “My mum was a wee angel. She propped me up as a person. I’m sure she wouldn’t have wanted me to sit in the house and do nothing. She would have said, ‘Get out of there and do something about it.’”
That’s exactly what Susan did and she became known as the woman with the big voice who had never been kissed.
Now, she says the kiss has happened.
She added: “I have been kissed but there’s no marriage planned yet.
“There are a lot of people who are special to me but I haven’t found the right person yet.”
