A MUSICAL based on the life of singing sensation Susan Boyle is headed for Sydney next year. British production I Dreamed A Dream, starring Elaine C. Smith, will be staged at the Royal Theatre after a run in Melbourne.
It will be the first time the show has been performed outside Britain, where it has toured since premiering in Newcastle in March. Australian producer Paul Dainty said it was a ‘‘ fascinating and moving story’’. Boyle became an overnight celebrity as the unlikely star of reality TV show Britain’s Got Talent three years ago. At 48, the awkward-looking singer with frizzy hair and a daggy dress stepped on stage to reveal a voice that left her audience gobsmacked.
