Waitress “dreams a dream” as “Subo” is first customer
Date: Monday 24th March 2014
A WAITRESS thought she had “dreamed a dream” when she started a new job — her first customer was singer Susan Boyle.
Sarah Cannon began her shift at The Bridge Cafe Bistro, Kirkby Thore, and was asked by owner Louise Reay to look after a group of four women who had popped in for lunch. “They sat down, I gave them some menus and said I would be back to take their order. Louise then said ‘did you not realise that’s Susan Boyle?’,” said Mrs. Cannon.
She admitted to being a “massive fan” of the Scottish singer, whose big break came after an appearance on the Britain’s Got Talent television show five years ago. “It was amazing. I couldn’t have got a better first day,” she added.
Mrs. Cannon, a mother-of-two, now works at The Bridge twice a week while her children are at school. She had a photograph taken with the singer, who was dining with a friend and two drivers. She has started a live nationwide tour.
“I said to her that I didn’t realise that she was on tour. I would really like to see her,” added Mrs. Cannon.
It was also a memorable experience for Mrs. Reay, who has run the business with her husband, Matthew, since last year. “We are big fans. I think she is fantastic. There were quite a few customers in at the time,” she said. “We treated her as we would anyone else — everybody gets special treatment here.”W
