Video: Susan Boyle looks forward to film role and duet with Elvis as she finally adjusts to living in the public eye

SCOTS singing sensation SuBo has just launched a new album and a single with Elvis and admits she's now loving life in the fast lane after a roller-coaster ride to fame and fortune.

SUSAN Boyle has told of her excitement at ending the year on a high with a new album, a film role and a single with Elvis Presley.
The singer is delighted about all three, not least her acting stint in film The Christmas Candle, which sees her paired up with veteran Scots actor James Cosmo.
Having acted in films such as Highlander, Braveheart and the television series Game of Thrones, Cosmo plays Herbert Hopewell in the tale set in 1890 in the village of Gladbury in the heart of the English countryside.
Susan is Eleanor Hopewell, Herbert’s wife, and she says she will be thrilled to attend a raft of red carpet premieres to promote The Christmas Candle, made by former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum’s EchoLight Studios, a company who produce and distribute faith-based family films.

Looking forward to the film’s release in the UK in a couple  of weeks, Susan said: “I’ll feel very excited and very proud and pleased to be there.
“It hasn’t fully sunk in at the moment. I’m still recovering from the shock. It’s a pleasant shock.”
She added: “I really loved the story because it was so simple and heartfelt and it appealed to me because it captures the essence of Christmas so beautifully.
“It’s all about the magic of Christmas and the Christmas message. The story is inspiring as it tells us never to give up on our dreams and to always believe in miracles – look what happened to me.
“I hadn’t planned to take up acting but when this came my way it was something that I wanted to take part in because... well, my life for the past four years has been about trying new things and this was a great first acting experience. I was honoured to have been asked.
“I really enjoyed being on set and working with the amazing actors. It was fascinating and inspiring to see what they do up close and what happens behind the scenes on films and the incredible teamwork. They all offered me so much support and were so kind.
“Working with James Cosmo as my on-screen husband was fantastic. I admire him as an actor and he’s a fellow Scot. It really was amazing.”
Cosmo – who describes church warden Herbert as “a salt of the earth, warm-hearted and decent man” – also got a kick out of working with Susan.
“It was great fun,” he said. “She’s an absolute sweetheart. I obviously knew who Subo, as I call her, was, so I was looking forward to meeting her.
“We come from the same sort of background and area so we got on really well. She’s used to big challenges and she’s taken another big leap. It’s very brave, what she’s done and she’s done a great job.”
The filmmakers added a scene to showcase her incredible singing voice on the song There Are Miracles All Around.
“The song that I sing in the film is very moving and beautiful,” Susan said.
“It encapsulates the beauty of the film and the story perfectly.” Written by Eric Newman and Candace Lee, the film is based on the novella of the same name by best-selling author Max Lucado and finds Susan in fine voice.
Lee said: “We wrote the role for Susan and crossed our fingers when we sent it to her agent. It was a very exciting moment when she came on board. She’s a sweet, gentle lady and surpassed our expectations.”
Newman added: “My mother-in-law is a huge Susan Boyle fan and when she stays with us, we play her records.
“The script was being written at the same time and I woke one morning and said we have to have her in this film. Her agent was really open to it and she read the script, loved it and said she’d do it.”
As well as appearing in front of the camera as Eleanor, Susan’s own life is also heading to the big screen.
Currently in pre-production, casting for her biopic is under way. She hopes the favourite to take the lead role will accept the challenge of playing the middle-aged Scot from her time in obscurity to finding fame on Britain’s Got Talent and going on to enjoy million-selling recordings and sellout performances.
The film follows the recent play, which starred Elaine C. Smith as the singing phenomenon from Blackburn, West Lothian.
Susan said: “It’d be a great honour if Julie Walters played me. Elaine did very well in the stage play but it is hard to tell if she could play me in the film.”
As well as charting Susan’s time on 2009’s BGT in which she was runner-up, it will deal with the subsequent dark days when the stress of being in the public eye proved too much and she checked in for a spell in London’s Priory Clinic to get away from it all before launching her music career.

Now, Susan insists her confidence has grown over time and she is enjoying her continued success. “It has been like a roller coaster,” she said. “It has been up and down but you get used to it.
“It’s like a baby beginning its journey. It has to take baby steps at first and gradually build up its confidence and that is what has happened with me over the last four and a half years.
“I’ve gradually built up a lot of confidence. I have a lot more confidence, I’m a lot more relaxed. I’m more able to handle things now.
“I didn’t even know much about the actual process, the business itself. I was more of a learner. But I feel I have a bit more experience now and a lot more to offer.”
Just as exciting is the release of her O Come, All Ye Faithful duet, recorded posthumously with the King of rock ‘n’ roll.
“It was a weird experience recording with Elvis because you don’t have the person there,” Susan said.
“But it was good as well because you really felt he was there with you as he came through the cans.
“I didn’t think a duet like that would ever happen. It was really good. His music was played a lot in our house. Apart from being an Osmonds fan, I was an Elvis fan as well. He’s a showman. I like all the razzle dazzle, the pizzazz. He was a bit of an influence.”
Susan has joined forces with Save The Children for the song.
It is being released as a Christmas single to raise vital funds for the charity of which she is an ambassador.
The official charity single will be released worldwide on December 8 and is already available to pre-order from the likes of iTunes and Amazon.
“Duetting with Elvis was beyond my wildest dreams and now that this is able to raise money and help children it is simply fantastic,” she said.
“I’ve had the privilege of spending time with families from the Families & Schools Together programme (FAST) at a school in Glasgow.

“To see the money raised in action and the difference it makes to these families is wonderful. It really does help people.
“The children from the FAST programme at St Rose of Lima in Glasgow also joined me for the music video.
“We had a lovely two days and the children were fabulous. They were all stars.” Having already enjoyed four million-selling albums, Susan is back with another called Home For Christmas.
It features O Come All Ye Faithful and other traditional Christmas pop songs and hymns, among them Little Drummer Boy featuring The Overtones, a duet of When A Child Is Born with Johnny Mathis, In The Bleak Midwinter and I’ll Be Home For Christmas, as well as Miracle Hymn from The Christmas Candle.
Susan said: “The Christmas album has something for everyone. It has a warm and fuzzy balance.”
And having seen her own dreams come true, Susan hopes 16-year-old Scot Nicholas McDonald can achieve his.
She is backing his efforts to go all the way and win the latest series of The X Factor.
Sending a personal message of support to the teenager who is still at school, she said: “There is certainly room for him, so on you go, son.
“He is absolutely fantastic. I hope he enjoys himself and enjoys the whole roller coaster.
“It is very enjoyable and very exciting. Just enjoy the whole process. Give it welly. Do the best you can.
“Scotland is rooting for you. I’m rooting for you and I hope you do really well.”
