The Secret Winter Gala
If you didn't feel festive at the end of the Save the Children and Bulgari's Secret Winter Gala at Guildhall last night, there really is no hope at all. For a start, it was themed around The Nutcracker. And there were smoking rum and apple syrup cocktails, a nut bar, and traditional carols humming in the background. Samantha Cameron, Mariella Frostrup and Elizabeth McGovern were there, swishing around in their beautiful long gowns and looking insanely beautiful in the Tatler photobooth. Soon everyone was ferried into the main dining room to tuck into a three-course feast of scallops, fillet of beef and gingerbread ice cream, while the English National Ballet performed theNutcracker finale to a live orchestra. When Lord Harry Dalmeny conducted the live auction (in tartan trousers - a present from his mother), furious bidding for a trip to Rome broke out. The lot was nabbed, eventually, by a very pleased Susan Boyle. Golly, with so much Christmas excitement, we're surprised if anyone managed to get to sleep...
