Susan Boyle: I'd rather get a dog than have a boyfriend
AFTER turning down a proposal from an 85-year-old man in Japan, singer admits she will probably never get married – but wouldn't mind having a new pet.
SUSAN BOYLE has told how she is likely to stay single for the rest of her life.
The 52-year-old Scot, who became a multi-millionaire after finding fame on Britain’s Got Talent, admitted: “I’d rather get a dog than have a boyfriend.”
And she claims she has only had one marriage proposal – from a Japanese octogenarian.
She revealed: “I had a proposal from an old boy who was 85 years old and Japanese.
“He had one foot in the grave and couldn’t speak any English – that’s my kind of luck.”
Susan, from Blackburn, West Lothian, plays a church-warden’s wife in the soon to be released film The Christmas Candle.
But the star, who continues her first tour with dates in Glasgow and Edinburgh this week, is adamant she does not want to change her single status in real life.
She said: “I’ve survived 52 years on my own and I think that speaks for itself. The short answer is I’m not really interested and I’m not likely to be either.
“The only dates I know are the ones which make you go to the toilet.
“Besides, if any man saw me without my teeth they would run a mile. I’m thinking about getting another cat or a dog because it’s a lot safer.”
Susan recently moved back to her £80,000 former council house in Blackburn after failing to settle in a lavish new home nearby.
But she admits that she does have her eyes on some of the trappings of wealth, in the form of a flash car.
Susan, who is worth an estimated £11million, has her heart set on getting her first motor, despite not being able to drive.
She said: “I’m going to try to buy a new car, probably a green Jaguar. I’m a little bit of a petrolhead.
“I don’t have a licence so will have to get someone to drive it for me, which makes it a lot less worrying.
“I’ve only had the one driving lesson and I don’t think I’d like to do it again. I backed a car into someone else’s and smashed their light.”
Susan still lives a normal life in her home town and says she doesn’t fear being kidnapped and held to ransom for her fortune.
She said: “If someone tried to kidnap me, believe me, I’d be back within 24 hours.
“They would be fed up of me going on and on. I tell you, there isn’t enough ransom money for me. They’d pay to send me back – complete with packaging.”
