Susan Boyle opening night - Reaction from Inverness

Susan Boyle begun her Scottish tour on Tuesday evening in what was simply a stunning performance to a sold out Eden Court Theatre in Inverness. Here, we take a look at what the national and regional press thought:

The Herald

****

There was lot riding on this appearance, the first night of her first ever live solo tour, but the phenomenon/riddle that is Susan Boyle proved equal to her task in the Highland Capital. Truth be told she blew Eden Court Theatre away.

By the time she actually appeared, two thirds were giving her a standing ovation before her first note sounded. They were back up several times through the night.

The shared memory of that night more than four years ago when she became a near overnight global success would punctuate proceedings, but it was what everybody wanted. When she mimicked the three judges on the show, it went down a bomb.

There was a fragility to her stage presence, but when the first bars of the next song sounded, she was back in charge. Her version of River Deep - Mountain High was utterly compelling, regardless of her being a Tina Turner as unlikely as Lance Ellington's Ike.

Now it is Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, and Glasgow's turn to get on their feet.

Singing sensation Susan Boyle wows crowd as nationwide tour gets underway.

CHEEKY impressions of Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden were just the icing on the cake for fans at Susan Boyle's first solo tour date.

For two hours, Blackburn's most famous resident swept them off their feet with stories, shimmying dance moves and that incredible voice.

From the moment they heard that now historic interchange with Simon Cowell during the intro, they were reminded of how far SuBo has come.

A standing ovation marked the start of the concert before she'd even arrived on stage. Standing there in her black sequins and white crepe shawl, she was a vision to behold.

The room fell so quiet you could have heard the proverbial pin drop before Susan said nervously: "Hello, Inverness. I'm really excited about being here this evening. This is my very first show and my very first town."

Then came the voice which is surely heaven-sent. The purity of vocals were evident from the off with a touchingly beautiful rendition of On My Own.

Surrounded by a 10 piece orchestra, SuBo held her own and more all the way through to the encore, an emotional You'll Never Walk Alone.

But it was her intro to I Dreamed A Dream that moved everyone to their feet. "Here's a song that got me into a lot of trouble," she said – and never have truer words been uttered.

Susan Boyle stuns with Su-perb opening night of tour in Inverness

It was the night Susan Boyle fans had been waiting for: the opening show of her first solo tour... and she didn’t disappoint.

Eight hundred fans, some from as far afield as America and Australia, packed the Eden Court Theatre in Inverness to watch Susan finally get the chance to unleash her talents on a scale never seen before, as she launched into an incredible 24-song set.

After two songs from Lance Ellington, a regular vocalist on Strictly Come Dancing, Susan appeared. In silhouette, she stood at the back of the stage while the audio from her first Britain’s Got Talent audition was played – a fitting reminder of how far she has come.

Then, with a glimpse of her famous wiggle, the audience couldn’t contain their excitement any longer and gave Susan the first standing ovation of the night. There were plenty more of these to come.

Finally, Susan was achieving a life-long ambition to be out on stage on her own, showcasing the music she loves, and you could tell she was relishing every moment. As she said: “This song is about a wee lassie who goes on an incredible journey – I can relate to that.

Dressed in a silver sparkly frock, Susan also made reference to the people who doubted she would ever amount to anything when she was young. She said: “There were people who told me I couldn’t do anything,” before she smiled and sang “na na na nana na!”

Susan added: “I never tend to do anything I am told so here I am now singing for you.” There’s no better way to make her doubters eat their words.

Susan appeared relaxed, confident and, perhaps most importantly, to be having the time of her life throughout her two-hour long concert and that clearly rubbed off on the thrilled audience.

If the reaction to last night’s concert is anything to go by, it doesn’t look like it will be long before ‘Susan Boyle in concert’ hits the road to wow her army of fans throughout the world.
