Susan Boyle reveals Hollywood ambitions
SHE’S already one of the hottest singing sensations in the world – now Britain’s Got Talent superstar Susan Boyle is dreaming a dream of becoming a Hollywood movie legend, too.
And the West Lothian warbler has her sights set on her perfect leading man – none other than movie heart-throb Brad Pitt.
She prepared for the first of two solo appearances at the Festival Theatre tonight by sending out a signal to Hollywood A-lister Angelina Jolie that she’d like nothing better than to snare a role opposite her man, World War Z star Pitt.
Susan revealed her Hollywood dream after her previously hidden acting talents were praised by filmmakers working on a new movie with gritty Scots star James Cosmo and former Rebus actor John Hannah.
Executives behind The Christmas Candle were so impressed by her mesmerising screen presence that they quickly rewrote her fleeting cameo appearance into a proper role and dubbed her “one take wonder” for her ability to quickly nail her lines.
The film is due for release in winter, but the 52-year-old Blackburn-based star admitted it’s given her a taste of movie making which could lead all the way to Hollywood.
“It would be very exciting to make a film in Hollywood,” she said. “I would enjoy that, and if I could choose anyone as my leading man, it would be Brad Pitt.”
Susan – who caused a global sensation when she appeared on Britain’s Got Talent in 2009 singing the Les Miserables showstopper I Dreamed a Dream – studied at Edinburgh Acting School for three years.
“Acting is just another form of self expression, it’s not really that much different to singing, so I think I can do it. We’ll just have to wait and see if it’s in Hollywood,” she added.
Since appearing on the talent show, Susan has amassed a £20 million fortune from record sales, live appearances and even advertising contracts for
American mayonnaise and Japanese beer.
She had been due to perform songs from her fifth album next month at her brother Gerry’s redeveloped former Odeon in Clerk Street, however the News revealed on Wednesday that her appearance has been cancelled and the project delayed due to a wrangle over the property’s lease.
Instead, she is expected to have a break before embarking on a global tour next year. And it’s possible she may even end up following in the footsteps of Elvis, Elton John and Celine Dion with a lucrative long-term residency at a Las Vegas hotel.
“Las Vegas is a possibility,” she confirmed. “I really enjoyed performing at the Flamingo last year with Donny Osmond and I’d very much like to go back. It would be a challenge, but I like to rise to
challenges.”
The only thing that might stop her from signing up is the thought of being away from the former council house in Blackburn where she grew up for too long.
“I wouldn’t want to be away from home for months on end. I like to get home, put on my slippers and have a nice cup of tea,” she added.
