Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle wanted to feature Madonna's hit song You'll See in the forthcoming musical about her life called I Dreamed a Dream but the queen of pop has refused her request.
Cameron Mackintosh on the other hand has given his permission for I Dreamed a Dreamfrom the musical Les Miserablés to be used in the show.
Boyle explained: "We had to get permission for all the songs in the show. Cameron Mackintosh gave us permission for I Dreamed A Dream from Les Mis but we never got Madonna's You'll See."
However the Scottish star insists the show is just as poignant without it, in particular the part where her parents are told by the doctor that when Susan was born she had been deprived of oxygen.
At the show's rehearsals she told The Sun: "Why do I cry at that? Because that's the reality. That's when the doctor tells my parents 'Don't expect too much.' He prejudged me. All the doctor told my mum was what I wouldn't be able to do, not what I could do."
Boyle continued: "But my dad said, 'All that child needs is love - and we've got plenty of that'. It makes me cry just thinking about it, never mind seeing it on stage every night. I Dreamed A Dream is a very romanticised view. It's more like I dared to dream - that's what it feels like to me."
I Dreamed a Dream will be at the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin from Tuesday 24th - Saturday 28th April 2012. See www.grandcanaltheatre.ie for more info.
