SUSAN BOYLE brought the house down at the premiere of a musical about her extraordinary life.
The Britain’s Got Talent star got a standing ovation when she appeared on stage for the finale of I Dreamed A Dream, which charts her meteoric rise to worldwide fame.
Many fans in the sell-out, 1100-strong crowd wept openly as SuBo, 50, emerged from the wings to sing the final two songs at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal.
Susan reportedly arrived at the theatre more than eight hours early to prepare for her eight-minute performance.
Clad in a sparkling red dress, she gave a faultless rendition of I Dreamed A Dream, the song she sang at her first BGT audition three years ago.
She finished with Who I Was Born To Be, then blew kisses to her adoring fans.
Rab C. Nesbitt actress Elaine C. Smith, who co-wrote the show and played Susan, also got a standing ovation.
Elaine was asked if Susan had enjoyed the first night and replied: “I think so. Who knows? She was very emotional.”
SuBo fan Emma Drew, 31, from North Shields, admitted: “I started to cry during Act One when Susan’s dad died and I kept crying until the very end. It was a fantastic night.”
As she left the theatre after opening night Susan was mobbed by wellwishers and autograph hunters.
Asked how she felt the show had gone she grinned and said: “I did what I’m good at.”
After completing its run at Newcastle next weekend the show goes on a nationwide tour including dates in Aberdeen next month and Glasgow in October.
