Susan Boyle might be a record-breaking, globally successful singing sensation today, but the star has revealed that she didn’t feel she “deserved all the success” she had after appearing BGT – and worried she would simply fade into obscurity.
The 50-year-old star shot to overnight fame after her audition for the 2009 series of Britain’s Got Talent screened on TV.
But the singer has revealed that after hitting the heights of fame so quickly, she feared she would enjoy only five minutes in the limelight.
“Because I’d risen so quickly, I was frightened I was going to sink quickly, too,” Susan told The Telegraph.
”At the same time, I felt I didn’t really deserve all the success I’d had. Although I still worry about that, I’m getting more relaxed now.”
Susan certainly needn’t worry about her success fading away overnight now. The singing star has three chart-topping albums under her belt, has gathered a host of celebrity fans, and has even performed for public figures including the Pope.
Now fellow Scot, comedienne and actress Elaine C Smith, is gearing up to play the role of Susan Boyle in a stage show about her life, called I Dreamed a Dream.
Susan will even appear on stage each night to sing the last two numbers, something that is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.
Speaking to BBC’s Lizo Mzimba earlier this week, bubbly Susan said she agreed to the show going ahead “because it happened so quickly, because the story had an appeal - a magical appeal. A fairy story, a dream come true for someone and it would be an example for other people.”
And Susan thinks anyone who goes to see I Dreamed a Dream won’t be disappointed. “Well you take risks with musicals but they’ll get to know some of me, not all of it, but I’m sure it’ll be a good night out and I’m sure it’ll be very entertaining.”
I Dreamed a Dream kicks off on March 23 at the Theatre Royal Newcastle.
